As in the past, Biden told the story on Friday while recounting what his mother supposedly said while urging him to accept Barack Obama’s 2008 offer to be his running mate. His mom, he said, did not want him to turn down a man who was vying to become the first Black president. No other Biden memoir, either, says he was arrested at such a protest. They include the false claim that he “used to drive an 18-wheeler” and the false claim that he has never earned $400,000 in a year. After media outlets found no evidence of such an arrest, Biden told CNN that he had been “stopped” in South Africa but did not mean to say arrested.

Here are the three macronutrients of happiness, according to Brooks, and how you can optimize them in your life. "I talk about the sub-parts, the macronutrients of happiness." Happiness is something that we all strive for, but there isn't a clear prescription for the desired feeling. "If you're doing something that's pleasurable and can be addictive [and] you don't do it alone, then you can get enjoyment which is a source of actual authentic and enduring happiness," Brooks said. Of all three "macronutrients," purpose is the one that you need to experience the most, he noted.

CNN —It’s been nearly 13 years since “The Oprah Winfrey Show” came to an end, but for viewers of her weight loss special on Monday night, it likely felt like Winfrey’s talk show was back. “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution” featured Winfrey doing what she proved for 25 seasons on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” she can do better than just about anyone else: bring people together and get them talking – and listening – to each other. Winfrey, too, shared the pain she has felt at times in her weight journey. “It’s not a matter of willpower.”The medical experts addressed potential side effects of weight loss medications and factors and risks that should be considered before taking it as part of a multiifaceted care plan. Winfrey spoke about her use of weight loss medication as one “tool” to manage her weight, combined with hiking, running, weight resistance training and eating a healthy diet.

Oprah Takes on Weight Stigma in the Ozempic Era
  + stars: | 2024-03-18 | by ( Dani Blum | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Oprah Winfrey, a longtime figure in the national conversation about dieting and weight bias, devoted an hourlong prime-time special on Monday to the rise of weight loss drugs. Her goal, she said, was to “start releasing the stigma and the shame and the judgment” around weight and weight loss — starting with her own, she said. “For 25 years, making fun of my weight was national sport,” Ms. Winfrey said in the show, titled “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution.”Shame has become a focal point in that conversation as new drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, which are widely used for weight loss, shift how people think about treating obesity. When Ms. Winfrey disclosed in December that she was taking a medication to manage her weight, she said she was “done with the shaming” that had followed her through decades of dieting. Many patients who start taking these medications say they have felt shamed for struggling with their weight, and then shamed for taking weight loss drugs, said Dr. Michelle Hauser, the obesity medicine director of the Stanford Lifestyle and Weight Management Center, who was not involved with the special.

A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a defamation lawsuit against Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, after her half sister accused her of spreading “disparaging, hurtful and false” statements in interviews. Samantha Markle, who shares a father with Meghan, claimed that comments Meghan made in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 and later in a Netflix documentary series, “Harry & Meghan,” aimed to portray Ms. Markle as “an unwelcome opportunist” who was “weaseling her way” into her famous half sister’s life. In a 58-page decision, Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida found that Ms. Markle had failed to identify any statements that supported her defamation claims. She also ruled that Meghan’s statements were protected either because they were pure opinion or substantially true, or because Ms. Markle had failed to make a case that they were defamatory in the first place. Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, spoke in detail to Ms. Winfrey about their split from Britain’s royal family in a CBS special that was broadcast in the United States on March 7, 2021, and in the six-episode Netflix series in 2022, sending shock waves around the world as they accused the royal family of failing to protect them.

For decades, America has followed Oprah through every major weight loss trend, and this was no exception. She later deeply regretted such a stunt, calling it a “Big, big, big, big, big, big, big mistake!”In 1994, Oprah ran her first marathon to celebrate her 40th birthday. It raised questions about Oprah taking medical weight loss drugs such as Ozempic or Wegovy. She later deeply regretted such a stunt, calling it a “Big, big, big, big, big, big, big mistake!” Charles Bennet/APWith Oprah stepping down, many people will lose their measure or point of reference for what is ahead or behind the curve as it relates to their weight and health. One might also ask what it means for the nation’s preeminent Black history museum to be economically tethered to a weight loss company.
